Job Description

A Lifeguard is responsible for the safety of the patrons in and around the pool area. They are also responsible for ensuring the cleanliness of the pool and pool area on a daily basis.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be at least 15 years of age
  • Must hold a current American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid and CPR/AED Certification
  • American Pool offers these Red Cross Lifegaurd classes for the cost of $150.00 and the certification lasts 2 years
    • ​To get a Red Cross Lifeguard certification, you must:
      • ​Swim 100 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Front crawl, breaststroke, or combination of both can be used. Swim goggles are allowed.
      • Tread water for 2 minutes using legs only
      • Timed Event, 50 seconds to complete:
        • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards using front crawl or breast stroke. No goggles allowed.
        • Submerge to a depth of 5 feet to retrieve a 10-pound brick. Return to the surface and walk or swim20 yards to return to the starting point, holding the brick above the water.
        • Exit the water using a ladder or steps.

 

General Responsibilities

  • Arrive on time for every shift.
  • Arrive in proper uniform as outlined in the APS handbook.
  • Test the pool water chemistry every two hours and record data.
  • Maintain target chemical levels in pool.
  • Maintain accurate records of all chemicals added to pool.
  • Wear personal protective equipment (i.e. safety glasses, mask, etc) when handling all pool chemicals.
  • Vacuum pool as needed.
  • Clean pool tiles as needed.
  • Report any pool supplies and chemicals that need to be reordered in a timely manner to Supervisor.
  • Check, review, and okay online schedule weekly.
  • Call office if unable to report to work as scheduled.
  • Find a substitute to work your shift if an absence is necessary.
  • Recognize emergencies and respond effectively.
  • Enforce all facility policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Inspect the facility on a daily basis and report any unsafe conditions or equipment to Supervisor.
  • Inspect restrooms every two hours for cleanliness and adequate supplies.
  • Complete any incident or accident reports immediately upon request.

American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course                                                                                                                           This Features include: CPR/AED skills, refined rescue techniques and streamlined course layout that provides more water time for participants to practice and refine skills. This is a professional level rescuer course with strenuous physical skill requirements. Students will learn Lifeguarding Skills, First Aid and CPR/AED for the professional rescuer in this class. The minimum amount of time for this class is 26 hours.
